Guy Friends and Blitz

So, I have been making a new friend. He's a guy from choir, and we connected right at the end of tour and stayed in touch afterwards, emailing back and forth. He's the one that ended tour with a crisis, and that provided the content for most of our dialogue. After a week and a half he decided to move on, and I kinda felt like I didn't have anything to say to him after that. But that was right about the time we were saying that we should hang out again sometime soon. We don't have a lot of mutual friends that we would hang out with, and although it would be fine to hang out one on one it seemed healthier to hang out in a group. So I brought him along to Blitz with me last week. That actually felt kind of awkward to me. The welcomingness of your friends kind of reflects on you - but they did fine and he enjoyed himself, so much in fact that he was eager to come again this week. But there was also the awkwardness of bringing a guy along to meet my friends - like meeting the parents, it hints of coupleness, even though that is not the direction I am going with this friend. And I guess that one of my other friends at Blitz is discomforted by me bringing this guy along. The hostess and I talked in the kitchen while the guys were in the living room. She noted that I give to him the same thing he gives me - positive female attention (and that was a cool thing for me to hear - that my appreciation and reciprocation of attention to the opposite sex might fill their needs too instead of simply being neurotic on my part), and he may fear losing that if I introduce another guy friend into the group. I'm not sure how to assure him that he has no reason to worry, especially since conversations clarifying that there is nothing special going on between me and the other guy assume that there is something going on between me and this guy...

  1. I think the word alas...might fit this?? Or perhaps my use of the English language is always as far stretched out as me...

Guys make the world so very interestingly complicated at times. But it's good to hear that they need us as much as we need them. Even if it is just hanging around doing random things.

Hope to be home soon ;)

  2. I've enjoyed having this new person at blitz. As for the situation - sometimes only time is needed to help put things in perspective? I think that will be the case here, or at least I hope it will be.
