Ezekiel 1:1-3

In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.
On the fifth of the month - it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin - the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. There the hand of the Lord was upon him.

I've been reading this all week. I can't move on from these verses. Well, one night I read the rest of the chapter, but then I put the bookmark back at the beginning when I finished.

In exile. In exile for five years. Surrounded by other exiles. A priest, away from the temple, the customary understanding of the place of God's presence, the place of connection with him, the place of religious vocation. Far from home. Far from God? There the heavens were opened. There God met him.
