Usually I think I'm pretty alright, or even pretty great. But I have noticed that when I am going into a downswing, the first thing to go is my self esteem. Sometimes it appears in what I say to myself in my head - things like, "yeah, I'm the loser who..." Other times it is deeper than that. At these times it seems incomprehensible to me that anyone else likes me, because I don't like myself. I can't believe that I am capable at anything so I fear all responsibility and the future. And there seems to be no hope of improvement, so all I can seek is escape.
