Reading

I recently finished reading Confessions of a Caffeinated Christian by John Fischer. I picked it up off the super sale shelf of the Christian bookstore several years ago, and finally got around to reading it. It was okay. He was really honest and not afraid to identify his shortcomings in a fashion that reminded me of Donald Miller, and I appreciated that. But I don't think I'm in the mood to internalize Christian writing these days.

He said something that I really identified with though:
This is the painful service that love provides: It strips away our protective layer, leaving us open to both hurt and love, and since we are human and fallible, we cannot love without hurting or be loved without being hurt.
I think that his words could be accurately switched around as well: we cannot love without being hurt or be loved without hurting. Love is pain. But worth it?
