Catching Up

So I went out for coffee today with an old friend. We used to be close, and then we grew apart, and then he moved away. Now we rarely see each other - only when he's in town (this is the first time) or when I'm visiting Oma (sometimes). We don't otherwise keep in touch, but our friendship hasn't died like I thought it might. It's actually better now. When we do go for coffee it's a novelty and we have really good conversations. There's a history between us of speaking honestly and not hiding what lies beneath the surface, and the potential for that has remained. Sometimes I find that I discover where I'm at when I discuss it with him.

Today I was late because I got stuck at work. And then way before I expected, he was looking at his watch and I was asking "do you need to go at a particular time?" and he was getting up and leaving. So many things that I thought we'd talk about, we didn't.
And that's okay. Things are the way they need to be, even though they're not always the way I think they'll be.

I thought it would be worthwhile to note some of what I would have said if we had had endless time. The updates of the last six months, the things that came to mind when I anticipated going out for coffee with him:
... I've been in a phase lately where I've been worrying again that I'm socially inept.
... I'm still with Justin. It's been good, it's been really good. Actually, I broke up with him, um, a month or two ago (?), but then after crying for a week I decided I wanted to get back together. It was kinda cool to see that I do want to be with him.
... The distance between me and God is solidifying.
